Villars Villars is a beautiful resort located in the heart of the Alps occupying a privileged position high above the Rhone Valley, with superb views towards the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc Massif. With pretty picture book chalets and spectacular views over the Rhône valley the village offers lots of charm, with its attractive main street full of interesting little shops, tempting cafés and restaurants. A must is a trip on the cog-wheel railway up to Bretaye, there are countless excursion possibilities within easy reach, Les Diablerets with its glacier and cable-car, Montreux and Vevey on Lake Geneva are but a few. Villars offers great walking with many good mountain restaurants for your lunch stops Vitznau Vitznau an idyllic little unspoiled village backed by the slopes of the Rigi Mountain with glorious surroundings. Only an hour’s steamer from Lucerne, Vitznau enjoys a beautiful lakeside promenade. Weggis This small charming village offers a relaxing peaceful atmosphere, Weggis will not disappoint a lovely lakeside Alpine village with a good selection of shops, restaurants and hotels. There are excellent walks in the mountains around Weggis you can travel as far as Burgenstock a rocky pinnacle, 3,700 feet above the lake offering magnificent views or climb Rigi on the cable car for thoes panoramic views. Wengen Wengen lies on a sunny, sheltered terrace below the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger mountains and has spectacular views across the Lauterbrunnen valley, this charming village offers a variety of small shops, cafés and bars. Wengen offers a great location for exploring the Bernese Oberland on the mountain railway, you can also travel up to Männlichen by cable car and then down to Grund by gondola the longest in Europe coming back to Wengen on the mountain railway. There are many delightful walks around and above the village, meandering through pine forests and flower-filled meadows. Many walkers take the opportunity to visit Mürren on the opposite side of the valley, a quiet hamlet amidst fabulous walking country with sparkling waterfalls and wildlife. Wilderswil Wilderswil is a traditional Bernese village with a peaceful, rural ambience. Set amidst flower-strewn meadows at the foot of the Bernese Alps, this is a friendly village with wooden chalets dating back to the 17th century. Wilderswil is perfectly located for excursions, take the rack railway into the mountains to visit Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren, with connections to the Jungfraujoch or the Schilthorn, or take the oldest cogwheel mountain railway to Schynige Platte at 6,500 feet to explore the fabulous alpine garden. Wilderswil is a perfect starting point for gentle walks on the lower mountain slopes with fabulous views to the lakes, Interlaken, the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monach, here is one of Switzerland's most beautiful walking regions with unforgettable views of the mountains and Thun and Brienz Lakes, why not venture to Schynige Platte and walk to First and then down to Grindelwald by gondola. Zermatt The picturesque mountain village of Zermatt is surrounded by some of Europe’s highest mountains the Matterhorn, Dom and Monte Rosa. Zermatt offers quaint little streets that are full of shops, boutiques, and mouth-watering pastry and chocolate shops added to its appeal is the fact that Zermatt is a traffic free village. Zermatt offers some amazing walking opportunities, and the network of mountain trains and cable cars makes access to the higher trails easy. The Gornergrat mountain train slowly takes visitors up the mountain, giving wonderful views of the Matterhorn and a breathtaking circular panorama of all the nearby peaks. For a close encounter with the Matterhorn, take the gondola to Schwarzsee, where there is an inviting restaurant with sun terrace, a tiny chapel ‘Mary of the Snow’. Zuoz The impressive town is known for its history and art, with its medieval tower houses and old buildings featuring coloured facades decorated with graffiti and narrow streets this is almost a museum of Engadine architecture. Zurich Zurich, boasts an excellent quality of life offering some of the best theatres, museums, restaurants, cafes, and glorious mountain scenery, not to mention the many shops to be found on Bahnhofstrasse.
