Lenzerheide Picturesque Lenzerheide remains undiscovered by the English masses, particularly suited to families, the main attraction in the summer months is Lake Lai offering baot and windsurfing hire. This area is also a firm favourite with cyclists with over 70 miles of routes, walkers have some excellent walking through the mountains on well sign posted routes, a good selection of golf courses and tennis courts add to the sports available here. Locarno On the northern tip of Lake Maggiore is the beautiful setting of Locarno, a vibrant cosmopolitan lakeside town narrow picturesque streets lined with elegant buildings lead down to the Piazza Grande, with busy pavement cafés and restaurants with an Italian flavour, the mild climate evokes a Mediterranean feel as do the palm and cypress trees that border the lake. Locarno is surrounded by good walking, splendid mountain and vineyard views and numerous sightseeing opportunities. Lucerne Lake and mountain in splendid harmony is hardly found anywhere else, as visitors from every corner in the globe visit this city on Lake Lucerne. A magical city steep in history, culture and sport, a vivacious musical festivals, and crowned by beautiful mountains and sparkling lake water. Catch one of the lake steamers to the charming lakeside villages of Brunnen, Burgenstock, Weggis and Vitznau. Lugano With its equally balmy climate south of the Alps, Lake Lugano known as the ‘Rio de Janeiro of Europe’ due to its spectacular location set between the two conical peaks of San Salvatore and Monte Bré. Public boat services carry visitors to peaceful old fishing villages. Walking is popular in the Verzasca valley. Meiringen Montreux A cosmopolitan elegant town, with a wonderful lakeside promenade lined with palm trees and flowers. Montreux enjoys superb scenery, an unusually mild climate and there is always something going on from major exhibitions to the Jazz festival in July. You cannot fail to be impressed with Montreux on the Swiss Riviera in the French speaking part of Switzerland. It has it all from the romantic castle ‘Chateau de Chillon’, lakeside gardens, cafés, smart shops and restaurants. Spring and summer on this sunny side of Lake Geneva produce a profusion of scent and colour. Mürren Mürren is one of the most enchanting mountain villages of Switzerland, at 5,400 feet the highest village in the Bernese Oberland it sits on a sunny terrace high above the Lauterbrunnen valley and is reached by cable-car from Lauterbrunnen or from Stechelberg. Breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are unique to Mürren, whilst its mountains, meadows and forests provide walkers with everything from scenic strolls to adventurous hikes. |
