Pilatus

The giant mountain rising above Luzern is Mount Pilatus rising to a height of 2132m, to reach the top you can take the worlds steepest rack railway from Alpnachstad to the top taking about 30 minutes alternatively you can go from Kriens, here you catch the cable car to Fräkmüntegg, connected to the summit by gondola.

The walk to the highest point of the mountain, the Tomlishorn, takes less than thirty minutes from the top station, offering breath taking views out over the lake, from here you can walk back to Luzern from Fräkmüntegg or make your way down from the summit to Alpnachstad, Hergiswil or Kriens.
