Geneva
Rushing down from its source high in the Swiss Alps, where it is fed by glaciers and Alpine streams, the Rhone River flows into Lake Geneva, the largest Alpine lake in Europe, the curved lake is split in ownership between France and Switzerland, but the majority belongs to Switzerland, the Swiss side it is overlooked by forested hills, terraced vineyards, charming villages, many resorts and cities.
Geneva is situated between the Jura Mountains in the north and to the south the snow capped Alps, dominated by Mont Blanc. Geneva, with its famous landmark Jet d'Eau, a feathery jet of water shooting up in the lake is mostly known for banking, and delights visitors with magnificent shopping, delightful culinary offerings and amazing nightlife.
Lausanne is sited in the middle curve of the lake home to the International Olympic Committee, the eastern end where the shores of the lake slope up more steeply lie the resorts of Montreux and Vevey.
Many visitors come to stay along the lake shores, where you will find some of the world's most expensive real estate nestled in parkland, eagerly sought by industrial millionaires and film stars.
Wherever you choose to stay along the lake, you'll find plenty to do, visiting museums, meander through old wine villages or wander along the flower-fringed lakeside promenades, board a paddlewheel steamer for an excursion on the lake; shop in the vast selection of boutiques or sit sipping coffee at one of the lakeside café’s watching the world go by looking at the unspoiled beauty of the mountain landscape.
